Orašac is a small village only 12 km from the world famous city of Dubrovnik, listed since 1979 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there are regular ship and bus services between the two. Orašac, with its population of around 500, lies on the southwest flank of the Dinara Mountains at the foot of Vraćevo brdo (442 m). From the sunny farmland one looks out over the azure Adriatic Sea towards the islands of Koločep, Lopud, und Šipan. The village centre consists of old Dalmatian style stone walled houses. Although new houses are being built around Orašac care is taken to ensure that they fit into the character of their surroundings. Tourism is gradually becoming more noticeable: Small guesthouses and holiday homes offer a quiet rural place to stay, and the view of the Adriatic with the passing ferries, yachts and cruise ships can be enjoyed from almost any point. There are two grocery shops where, even on Sundays, all essentials can be purchased, as well as a small street café. The farmers around sell produce such as wine, cheese, ham, fruit and vegetables. Only a few minutes away on foot the seeker finds a short idyllic beach where a beach café and a little sea restaurant are there waiting to be discovered. This quiet beach is off the beaten track and lies below steep limestone cliffs where little fishing boats bob on the water.
